CARE · BROWSER GUIDE

Browser requirements
for CARE.

What you need on your computer, tablet or phone to use CARE in a web browser. Check your browser, device, connection and settings before you start.

Using CARE in your browser

Open your organisation’s CARE address in your browser and sign in with your CARE account. For everyday records and forms, you need a current browser, a suitable device and a reliable connection.

Start with an updated browser.

Chrome is recommended. Keep your device software up to date and allow JavaScript and CARE’s site storage. Printers, cameras and microphones are needed only for features that use them.

Practical specifications

Suggested specifications for the computer you use to access CARE. The recommended configuration gives you more room to use CARE while keeping a video call open.

Practical specifications for CARE browser use and video calls
ComponentPractical baselineRecommended for CARE alongside video calls
ProcessorModern 64-bit dual-core, 2.0 GHz or equivalent performance.Modern 64-bit quad-core, 2.5 GHz or equivalent performance.
RAM4 GB for routine CARE use.8 GB or more.
Internet for video calls5 Mbps upload and 5 Mbps download available per device.10 Mbps upload and 10 Mbps download available per device.
Camera & audioCamera and microphone required when making video calls.720p webcam, microphone and headset.
Compare processor performance, not just clock speed.

The 2.0 GHz and 2.5 GHz figures are performance guidance, not strict base-frequency requirements. A capable modern laptop processor may have a lower base clock. Check the model, generation, base frequency and maximum boost frequency together. Intel explains why base frequency alone cannot compare processors across generations.

The internet figures are planning targets with spare capacity for each device on a video call. On a shared connection, allow upload and download capacity for every simultaneous call plus CARE, uploads and other traffic. Validate these practical targets with your CARE setup and chosen calling service.

For reference, Zoom’s browser requirements list 3.8 Mbps upload and 3.0 Mbps download for 1080p video, and recommend at least 8 GB RAM on Windows and macOS. The figures above are suggested device and connection targets, not measured CARE minimums.

Browser compatibility

Use an up-to-date stable browser and keep automatic updates enabled.

Browser compatibility: what you need
RequirementWhat you need
Recommended browserGoogle Chrome, latest stable release.

Chrome is the recommended starting point for everyday CARE use.

Other browser optionsCurrent Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox or Safari.

Check the workflows you use with your CARE support team, including uploads, printing and any video calls.

Browser updatesInstall browser updates and restart when prompted.

If CARE shows an unsupported-browser warning, update your browser or switch to the latest Chrome.

Devices & displays

Choose a device that runs a current browser comfortably and gives you enough screen space for your work.

Devices & displays: what you need
RequirementWhat you need
Desktop or laptopA Windows, macOS or Linux computer that meets the requirements of your chosen browser.

A keyboard, mouse or trackpad and a larger display are recommended for sustained data entry, billing and reports.

Check the forms and features you need on your device. Use a larger screen for detailed records and wide tables.

Operating systemAn operating system that receives security updates and supports your current browser.

Keep both your device software and browser up to date.

StorageFree space for browser updates and downloaded documents.

Use the RAM guidance in the practical specifications above. Close unused tabs if your device slows down.

Connection requirements

Your device needs a reliable connection to your organisation’s CARE address while you work.

Connection requirements: what you need
RequirementWhat you need
Network accessInternet access for online CARE, or access to your organisation’s network where required.

Use a stable Wi-Fi or wired connection. Stay connected when opening records, saving forms and uploading files.

Uploads & callsA connection that can handle the documents you upload and any audio or video features you use.

For video calls, use the per-device upload and download targets in the practical specifications above. Large uploads share that capacity; also check your calling service’s requirements.

Browser settings

Allow the browser features CARE needs. Additional permissions depend on the tasks you perform.

Browser settings: what you need
RequirementWhat you need
Secure connectionUse the HTTPS CARE address provided by your organisation.

Camera and microphone features need a secure browser connection.
